TOP 10 WEATHER PHENOMENA

HI guys,

This is post #2. I have taken a hiatus from blogging for a while-now it's time to come back. Here's my first TOP 10 list-this is of weather phenomena;weather is an intense interest of mine.

TOP 10 WEATHER PHENOMENA

#10) COLD- ( FEBRUARY) This is the worst possible weather condition. Especially when combined with a biting chilly wind, cold weather is NOT fun. OK;there ARE some benefits to taking a long drive on a cold sunny day, BUT, realistically, cold weather is not my thing. Especially like living in the NorthEast, where we get quite a bit of it. ANd also because I'm an outdoorsy type of individual;like going out and DOING stuff;not THAT much into indoor activities. More than 2 or 3 months of cold weather I could not live with.

#9)SNOW- (JANUARY) Snow ranks only second to cold as the worst weather condition. True, it's nice to go snowboarding in the white stuff, and to sip hot cocoa or hot chocolate on a snowy day or eve, BUT, let's face it, most of the time we don't really have that luxury, now do we? We have to go out in the white stuff and drive in it to work or wherever we're going. The only reason that it is " better" than cold is that the actual temperature is a bit warmer when it's snowing than when its sunny and cold, usually. The moisture holds in a bit of the "relative heat". Hence the phrase" self-destructive" sunshine. If you're not into meteorology you probably have no idea what I'm talking about LOL.

#8)HUMIDITY- (JULY) Especially in summer, coastal regions tend to exacerbate the humidity factor, due to the moisture coming in from the ocean, lake, river, whatever. And CITIES tend to exacerbate the actual temperature in summer, due to the urban island or greenhouse effect whatever you want to call it, so the heat is actually feels worse than it actually is. Humidity is uncomfortable, it makes you perspire more and makes breathing and exercise harder. In essence,it sucks. I think residents of the NorthEast BosWash corridor know this all too well during summer, especially during summertime. Let alone folks who live in the SOuthEast, big cities like Atlanta, Dallas, Nashville, Miami, etc. Don't know how they cope. Honestly.

#7)RAIN- (APRIL) Rain,to me, has more of a psychological effect to me personally. I guess because of the lack of Vitamin D from the sun, tends to make one tired mentally, psychogically, and emotionally too. At least it does for me. If I'm depressed, stressed, and/or bored, the rain will make that situation worse. Seattle and Portland and Vancouver and coastal Alaska get the most rain, and they also have high suicide and SAD(Seasonal-Affective Disorder) instances, despite the palm trees and relatively "balmy" mild climate. Rain rain go away.

#6)FOG- (NOVEMBER) I don't really like fog. It tends to hang around in the morning during spring and fall and postpones the nice sunny warm days. Also has a kind of depressing feel to it, I think.

#5)WIND- (MARCH) Wind, obviously, is kind of a mixed bag-that's why it's sort of in the middle I guess. In the winter of course it's no good, making the already cold weather feel even colder, but in the summer, it can be quite pleasant-(Seals and Crofts-SUMMER BREEZE makes me feel fine.......) It does. In the spring and the fall it can also be quite nice too. March is the windiest month, and due to the fact that it comes in like a lion and out like a lamb,March can be quite nasty in the beginning and quite nice towards it's end.

#4)THUNDERSTORMS- (SEPTEMBER) I USUALLY like thunderstorms. Partly because they tend to cool down the atmosphere in summer-time, and also for some strange reason I find the pouring rain showers to be quite exciting(at times) and quite therapeutic and cleansing(at others). But again that's just me. Even going to the beach during thunderstorms, I enjoy. Provided no lightning of course.

#3)HEAT- (AUGUST)- OK if its a DRY heat, It's fine with me. I can handle up to around 90 degrees of dry heat before I start to get cranky. In general I like the warmth, because of the beach, the park, the pool.etc. I like being outdoors. But like everything else, it has an extent too which it can be too much. When its humid out, I can't really deal with anything above the 70s.

#2)SLEET/ICE/FREEZING RAIN/MIXED PRECIPITATION-( DECEMBER)- ALl variations on the same theme, meteorologically speaking. This type of precip occurs when the temp is AROUND 32 degrees or just slightly above or below. Usually occurs in late fall or early spring. I have no idea, really, why this type appeals to me, just that it DOES! MAYBE because it's fun to walk, jog,or run in!

#1) SUN- (JUNE)- The nicest time of the year of course. the most sunny days and the heat and humidity hasn't really started yet. Yes,sun is almost always a good thing. This one is pretty self-explanatory.

SO there you have it-my TOP 10 WEATHER PHENOMENA. I'll try to post more top 10 lists in my future blogs. That's it for now-thanks for reading!
